Inside the System
The DeckTek Layer System
Every DeckTek surface is a full engineered system, not a single sheet of foam on a boat. Explore the layers that make our EVA decking the most durable, comfortable surface on the water.
Our Process
From Concept to Deck
Four simple steps to a custom-fit surface system that looks as good as it performs.
Template & Measure
We 3D scan your deck and capture every hatch, console, cup holder, and contour as a precise digital model. Nothing gets traced by hand or guessed at.
Design & Customize
Choose from our material library of colors, textures, patterns, and inlays, or bring your own vision. Seams and logos are laid out before we cut.
Precision Cut
Your digital template drives our American-made ShopSabre CNC router, which routes the EVA foam to tolerances under 0.25mm (0.01 inch).
Ship & Install
Peel-and-stick 3M marine adhesive backing makes installation straightforward. We include full instructions with every kit.
The Technology
Engineered, Not Estimated
Two machines stand between your boat and a kit that fits line for line. We capture your deck digitally, then cut it on American-built equipment.
3D Scanner
We capture every curve before we cut a thing.
We scan your deck and turn its real geometry into a precise digital model, recording every hatch, edge, and contour at once. That model becomes the template that drives the cut, so the fit is dialed in before a single piece of foam is touched. It also stays on file, ready for reorders and replacement pieces without bringing your boat back in.
- Captures complex, freeform contours hand-measuring tends to miss
- Replaces one-off cardboard and plastic templates with a digital model
- Drives the CNC router directly from your deck's actual shape
- Stored on file for matched reorders and replacements
ShopSabre CNC Router
American-built machines, cutting to engineered tolerances.
Your digital template feeds straight into our ShopSabre CNC router, an American-made machine built in Lakeville, Minnesota. It routes premium closed-cell EVA foam to tolerances under 0.25mm (0.01 inch), holding the foam flat on a vacuum table so every edge comes out clean. Because each piece is cut from a digital toolpath, matched sets and reorders come out identical every time.
- Cuts to tolerances under 0.25mm (0.01 inch)
- Purpose-built for cutting EVA foam and marine decking
- Vacuum hold-down keeps foam flat for clean, consistent edges
- Toolpath-driven cuts repeat identically across reorders
Made in the USA
American equipment, American-made decking.
We build with American-made tools, on American soil, for American boats. ShopSabre engineers and assembles its routers in the USA, and we cut every DeckTek kit right here. From the machine that does the cutting to the foam that lands on your deck, it is made in the USA, start to finish.
- 100% American Made decking and matting
- Cut on USA-built ShopSabre equipment
- Genuine 3M marine adhesive on every kit
- Family-run shop, hands-on builders
The fit was absolutely perfect. Every contour, every cup holder, every step pad. It looks factory and performs better.

Custom Boat Decking, Answered
Yes. EVA foam is closed-cell, so unlike marine carpet it won't absorb water, rot, or mildew, and it rinses clean with a hose. It cushions every step, quiets the deck, grips when wet, and stays cooler underfoot than teak or dark gelcoat. DeckTek cuts it to your exact hull for a factory-grade fit rather than a trimmed-down approximation.
It runs significantly cooler than teak or dark gelcoat in direct sun, especially in lighter colors. Because it's cushioned closed-cell foam rather than a heat-soaking hard surface, it stays comfortable underfoot, even barefoot. Choosing lighter top colors keeps surface temperatures lower still on hot days.
DeckTek decking is built from UV-stable closed-cell foam and bonded with genuine 3M marine adhesive, so it resists fade, peel, and lifting through years of sun, salt, and spray. Cutting each kit to a tolerance under 0.25mm removes the gaps and lifting corners that shorten the life of DIY trim-to-fit sheets. A properly installed deck holds up for many hard seasons.
We compete on exact fit. Every kit is digitally templated and CNC-routed to your hull, where off-the-shelf foam is sold as stock sheets you trim during installation. It's made in the USA from UV-stable closed-cell EVA with genuine 3M marine adhesive, which adds up to clean seams, no lifting corners, and gelcoat-safe removal.
Cost comes down to total square footage, the number of pieces and contours, color and inlay complexity, and whether you supply templates or need us to build one. Rather than hide a number, we publish our cost guidance and what moves it. Send your boat details and we'll return a free, itemized quote, usually within 24 hours.
No. The 3M marine adhesive forms a permanent, peel-resistant bond that still releases cleanly when you refit, without scarring the gelcoat. Because each kit is cut to your exact hull, it lays flat with no overhangs or lifting edges to trap water or stress the surface.
We build custom EVA foam surfaces for boats (center consoles, bay boats, bass boats, skiffs, jon boats), pontoons, jet-skis and PWCs, kayaks and SUPs, and vehicles (truck-bed mats and auto floor matting). We also take on fully custom work, including logo inlays, multi-color designs, dock pads, cooler tops, and OEM or fleet runs.
Send your boat or vehicle details along with digital templates or measurements. We'll spec a precision-cut, made-in-USA solution and return a free quote, usually within 24 hours. From there we template, design, cut, and ship your kit with peel-and-stick 3M backing and full install instructions.
We capture your deck with a 3D scanner, which records the exact contours of your boat (every hatch, console, cup holder, and curve) as a digital model. That model drives a ShopSabre CNC router, a machine built in the USA by a manufacturer based in Lakeville, Minnesota, with a line purpose-built for cutting EVA foam and marine decking. The scanner is the capture half and the router is the cut half: it routes each templated panel to a tolerance under 0.25mm, so every piece follows your hull line for line. The result is American-made decking produced on American-made equipment, cut the same way every time rather than trimmed by hand.
